Jasper the 100
Jasper the 100

Without Jasper, we'd just see a bunch of people who are actually really good at pushing their grief out of the way, moving on, and continuing to fight. The poor boy (let us not forget that he is only a teenager) is out of fucks to give. I can understand why he feels and acts the way he does. He is deeply depressed and traumatized from his experiences on Earth, and even if other characters are acting more nobly than he is, I don't begrudge him his misery.

Hell, he even almost committed suicide before he found out they were all going to die anyway. Following that, he drowned his sorrows in alcohol, and later took the chip to escape. That's also why he abuses drugs and alcohol - he has always been looking for an escape: Mount Weather seemed comfortable and like it would be a better life, so he resisted fighting their captors. He is not as well suited to this new Earth as others are. When he willingly took the chip, it's because he was in so much pain and just wanted to stop fighting. it's Jasper whose reaction feels the most realistic. If anything, I think that most of the characters are unnaturally good at picking up and moving on. Yes, most other characters have lost someone who they loved, but it's overly simplistic to start this game of "who's suffered the most?" when there is a spectrum of how people respond to trauma. He did have that heroic arc in MW, but that ended with him losing Maya, who, let us not forget, was killed by Clarke, Bellamy, and, worst of all, his best friend Monty. Following that, he was never quite his normal, carefree self - he was always a bit jumpy and clearly suffering from PTSD. On his first day on Earth, he was speared in the chest, kidnapped, and strung up as human bait.

Now that that's out of the way, I strongly disagree with the characterization of him as a "piece of garbage." For a TV show that relishes in moral ambiguity and shades of grey, calling him trash is insulting to the character the writers have created. Before I start, I must say that I will never forgive Jasper for calling Harper "low-hanging fruit." He would rather torture and kill the people that have supported him than deal with his painĪll right, I have to say something because I am stunned by the number of people who agree with this. So while yes Jasper is a selfish ass it's not like it's anything new, it's been there since day one.Įdit: Just watched the scene with chipped Raven and she also says "being a selfish loser is your only move" and mocks him because he wants people to cater to his feelings even though everyone has lost someone.Įdit 2: /u/agirlhasnoname99 pointed out that Jasper willingly took the chip after he knew how it would make him act. Hmm, using a substance to check out of the world because it's too hard.sound familiar? She says he stole drugs to get high because life on the Ark was too hard. Then everything he cared about was ripped away from him, leaving him nothing to live for.Ĭhipped Raven actually tells him he was always been a piece of trash.

He takes charge and fights hard to save the innocent people at Mt.

He genuinely cares about Maya, the first thing we actually see him care about. Season 2 is Jasper's redemption story until it suffers death by Clarke. And he calls Harper "low hanging fruit" when she shows interest in him like he was so superior to her. The instant people start to like Jasper because he killed some Grounders he abandoned Monty because "they weren't the same anymore" meaning Jasper was cool now and Monty couldn't keep up. If you look back at all of Jasper's actions you can see even early on in season 1 that he is a dick.
